School-Based Trainee Business Support Officer x2

The Cessnock City Council school based traineeships provide young students with the opportunity to work at Council while they are still at school, to equip them with skills and experience necessary to help them complete their education and gain entry into the workforce. We will be seeking two school-based trainees currently studying in year 10 (commencing year 11 in 2018) to complete the Certificate II in Business Services. 

Cessnock City Council recently received funding from the Elsa Dixon Aboriginal Employment Program and we will be looking to identify one of the two positions for an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander student within the Cessnock LGA.

The trainee's primary role is to provide efficient and effective administrative support in a professional and responsive manner, with requirements to perform these duties across the three directorates of Council. While completing year 11 and year 12 studies, trainees will:

  • work at least one day a week at Council, either in the main administration building or within one of our other sites
  • receive an income while learning new skills
  • achieve a Certificate qualification
  • be supported by Council staff
  • potentially be considered for career opportunities at the end of their traineeship.
