Expression of Interest – On-call - Relief Airport Reporting Officer
Expressions of interest are sought from staff interested in acting as the Relief Airport Reporting Officer for the duty on-call roster and when the Airport Operations Coordinator is on leave or otherwise unavailable.
The role of the Airport Reporting Officer is to:
- Inspect, action and report on hazardous conditions that may affect the safety of aircraft operations at the airport.
- Respond to enquiries and complaints regarding the airport, the safe conduct of aerodrome works and ensuring that works which could compromise aircraft operational safety are properly planned and executed.
- Assist with airport grounds maintenance.
Cessnock Airport operates 24/7 365 days a year. The successful applicant should live within thirty minutes from the airport and be willing to be on-call and attend the airport on weekends and after hours. Weekend Inspections commence from 6.30am.
The weekly on-call period runs from 08:00am Monday to 07:59am the following Monday. Weekend / Public Holiday work is required. There may also be times when you would be required to be in attendance at the airport during normal working hours and, as such, the agreement of your Department Manager is required prior to submitting an expression of interest for this position.
If you are interested in submitting an EOI please address the following criteria in your submission:
- Demonstrated workplace reliability and ability to accept on-call work including weekends;
- Demonstrated ability to work unsupervised;
- Ability to follow established inspection and regulatory and compliance protocols;
- Ability to analyse and solve problems;
- Ability to operate hand tools and other airport equipment such as ride on mowers and spray equipment;
- Basic knowledge of Council’s emergency procedures;
- Experience in supervision of work crews;
- Experience in report writing and computer skills;
- Good interpersonal skills;
- General interest in aviation; and
- Valid NSW Drivers Licence.
Full training will be provided as an Airport Reporting Officer/Airport Works Supervising Officer as well as an Air Radio Operators Certificate and valid First Aid and CPR certificate. The training will be conducted via online modules / in person and must be completed prior to starting in the position.
A trial period of 6 months will apply to ensure the arrangement suits all involved.
The current rate of remuneration is your base rate of pay plus on call allowance. Payment for call outs (when you are required to work out of hours) will be at the applicable overtime rates or claimed as time in lieu as specified in the Cessnock City Council Enterprise Agreement (2025) and the Local Government (State) Award 2023. As of the first full pay period in July 2025 the on-call allowance is $348.18 per week ($225.00 Award payment + $123.18 Enterprise Agreement Amount).
