About the opportunity
We are seeking a dynamic Economic Development Officer to lead initiatives that strengthen the local economy and position Cessnock LGA as a thriving destination for business, tourism, and film. In this role, you will develop and maintain strong relationships with local businesses, industry groups, and key stakeholders, ensuring Council’s communications and brand effectively support the business community.
You will deliver business development and capacity-building programs, support the delivery events and investment attraction, and oversee Council’s grants and sponsorship initiatives, unlocking opportunities that foster growth and resilience. Additionally, you will coordinate film and media attraction activities, helping to showcase the region’s unique character and economic potential.

Remuneration
$87,711 - $100,867 per annum plus 13% superannuation

About you
We're seeking someone with a degree qualification or relevant experience in Commerce, Business, Marketing, Social Science, or a related field. You'll have a proven ability to develop innovative strategies that address economic development challenges, along with experience securing corporate sponsorships or grant funding. Strong interpersonal, communication, and public presentation skills are essential, as is the ability to work effectively with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders. Solid time management skills and the ability to manage competing priorities are also important. A current Class C driver’s licence is required for this role.
